2021 NFL Free Agency: Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Dallas Cowboys

A relatively young corner that a team could get at a reasonable price is Chidobe Awuzie. While Awuzie has had some ups and downs during his career with the Cowboys he does offer some skills that could make him a good signing if he goes to the right team. One of the positive traits with him is he is a smart player who is a good overall athlete. He also does a good job making plays on the ball when in zone coverage, as he broke up 14 passes in 2019.

The teams that pursue Awuzie will likely be limited to teams that play primary zone defense. This is due to him having trouble making plays with his back to the ball, ranking in just the 35th percentile in single coverage according to Pro Football Focus. He has also had his share of injury issues as he has only played one full season in his career. He was limited to just eight games this past season as he was battling a hamstring injury.

The team that would make a lot of sense for Awuzie is the Denver Broncos. This fit would make sense for several reasons including that one of Denver’s biggest needs this offseason is cornerback. The team also primarily plays zone coverage which is the best fit for Awuzie. One more reason he would make sense in Denver is that he played his college football at Colorado University.
