NFL Draft 2020: Best pick made by each NFC East team
Dallas Cowboys: Bradlee Anae, EDGE, Utah
Round 5, 179th Overall
The Dallas Cowboys absolutely crushed the 2020 NFL Draft. It all began with the fantastic selection of CeeDee Lamb at No. 17 overall. Their strong draft haul continued with cornerback Trevon Diggs in the second round and defensive tackle Neville Gallimore in the third. All three of those selections were great, but stealing Bradlee Anae with the final pick in the fifth round was simply unfair.
Anae was a consistently productive defender in college, piling up 13 sacks and 14 tackles for loss last season. He played in 39 career games at Utah and finished his four-year college career with 131 total tackles (40 for loss) and 29.5 sacks. Anae also forced five fumbles during his time at Utah. Simply put, Anae was a consistent force to be reckoned with in college and has the overall skill-set to be successful at the next level.
Less than ideal athletic testing at the Combine caused Anae to slip down the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, but his play at Utah shows an impressive defensive end prospect who has a good combination of quickness off of the ball and power at the point of attack. Anae is never going to be a top-notch speed rusher on the edge, but he is a good, solid football player who can come in and help fill an immediate position of need for the Dallas Cowboys.
An argument could certainly be made for any of the Cowboys’ first three picks in the 2020 NFL Draft being their best, especially Lamb at No. 17 overall. However, you simply cannot beat the value of being able to snag Anae with the last pick of the fifth round. Tremendous selection by Jerry Jones and company.
