Ranking the five best value picks in the 2020 NFL Draft
3. CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Round 1, Pick 17
While many of us expected the Dallas Cowboys to fill a defensive need in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, this team did a great job of simply taking the best player on their board. CeeDee Lamb was considered by many to be the top receiver in an absolutely loaded class at the position. However, he ended up being the third receiver off of the board and the Cowboys scooped him up at No. 17.
Make no mistake about it, Lamb at No. 17 is an incredible value and I give the Cowboys a ton of credit for making him the pick. Every team likes to say that they take the best player available in the draft, but in reality, they are mostly picking based on team needs. The Cowboys put their needs to the side and simply took the best player available when they snagged Lamb at No. 17.
Sticking Lamb into the Cowboys’ lineup with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, not to mention Ezekiel Elliott and a top-notch offensive line, gives Dak Prescott an incredible group of weapons to work with. The Cowboys now need to make sure to lock up Dak for the long-term, but they have undoubtedly done a great job of getting him plenty of talent to work with.
The Cowboys did a nice job of filling their defensive needs later in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, they knew that Lamb was too good of a player to be on the board at No. 17 and they did not hesitate to bring him in. This was arguably the best first-round selection made in the 2020 NFL Draft.
