Chargers Nation: Why Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert are a super combination
Jim Harbaugh is already a huge fan of Justin Herbert. In fact, he has admitted he is “starstruck.”
Just weeks after leading the Michigan Wolverines to the National Championship, Harbaugh was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, and he already has his eyes set on willing a Super Bowl. If he can tap into the talent of Hebert and the team overall, that may not be a hard goal to accomplish sooner rather than later.
While it was a tough decision to leave Michigan, Harbaugh told CBS during the AFC Championship Game that getting that Lombardi Trophy was his main motivation. If he can lead a talented, but underachieving squad like the Chargers to a championship, even better.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has Super Bowl aspirations
In returning to the NFL after almost raising a Lombardi Trophy with the San Francisco 49ers, the new Chargers coach is pumped up.
“I got so many sands left in the hourglass and I want to take a crack at that,” Harbaugh said. “There’s nowhere better to do it than with the Los Angeles Chargers. Susie Spanos, Dean Spanos, Ed McGuire, John Spanos and this great quarterback.”
By great quarterback, Harbaugh is talking about Herbert who has proved he can be a top signal caller in the league. Now that he has the coach, perhaps sky is the limit for the Chargers with the talent the team has on both sides of the ball.
“I have [met Herbert], Harbaugh said. “I met him and Derwin James, pro’s pros these guys, Keenan Allen.
“But I was a little starstruck meeting Justin,” the new Chargers coach admitted.
The Bolts finished the 2023 NFL season with a 5-12 record and Herbert on the shelf due to a season ending injury. The last place finish in the NFC West earned the squad a top 10 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a last place schedule for the 2024 NFL season. With the championship winning attitude Harbaugh brings to the table and even more talent to be added and tapped into, the combination of Harbaugh and Herbert could and should be a dangerous factor in 2024 especially with Harbaugh did with J.J. McCarthy at Michigan.
Bigger, stronger, more talented, Hebert will be a fun player to coach for Harbaugh and a player he will challenge to get even better.
It should be fun in L.A. in 2024!
