NFL Week 1 proved just how quickly things can change in the NFL.  As the needs of teams and draft positioning changes from week-to-week, NFL Mock Drafts will become that much more entertaining and intriguing as the 2025 NFL prospects rise and fall depending on how they do week to week.

Although there is no clearcut top quarterback prospect like Caleb Williams, the 2025 NFL Draft will have some interesting QB talent worthy of first round looks.  So far in the college football season, top prospects like Georgia’s Carson Beck, Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Miami’s Cam Ward have come as advertised.  Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders has struggled and is under the biggest spotlight as a player will be an obvious wildcard in the 2025 NFL Draft.

But, more than the QB talent rising and falling each week, the NFL teams in need of quarterbacks tend to change.  NFL QB’s like Deshaun Watson, Bryce Young and Daniel Jones are already under the microscope, but due to his latest concussion, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has the franchise thinking about a possible short-term solution that could lead to a long-term target in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Looking at some early NFL Mock drafts, there is consistency with the Las Vegas Raiders taking a QB and the choice is an obvious one.

Chris Trapasso’s CBS.com NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Raiders select Carson Beck

Georgia’s Carson Beck will be a top 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.  Whether he is selected as the top quarterback taken is the question.  As of now, he is one of the safest bets and a top QB Chris Trapasso of CBS.com has as one of five signal callers taken in the first round.

In his mock draft 2.0, Trapasso writes:

“At this point, no one has any clue how the quarterback position will shake out in April -- there's no real consensus for these top guys -- but Beck feels like the safest bet, and the Raiders need stability at the game's most vital position.”

NFL Mocks has the Raiders as an early fit for Beck as well.  If nothing else, it would be interesting to see Beck reunite with teammate Brock Bowers in Las Vegas.  With a familiar target already in place, the current Bulldogs quarterback could have an easier transition into the NFL given his skillset and the chemistry he already has with Bowers.  Can they reignite that college football magic in the NFL?  Like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, this would be a pairing to watch in 2025.

Why the Miami Dolphins should have their sights on Cam Ward

In that same mock draft, Trapasso has the Carolina Panthers selecting Cam Ward with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.  Ward has been ballin’, but that seems high for a quarterback who would’ve been a mid-round pick at best had he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.  But a main reason he stayed in college and transferred to Miami is to become a better quarterback and show off his talent.

As a dual-threat signal caller, he has done that in already throwing for 689 yards for the Hurricanes with 6 touchdowns.  Depending on what happens with Tagovailoa the rest of the season, the Dolphins should be thinking about drafting a potential replacement as Tua seems a hit away from retirement at this point.

Ward sticking around South Beach and playing for the Dolphins could be a win-win situation in Miami.  As far as being able to draft Ward, if Tua is out for multiple weeks, the Dolphins could be in for a mediocre season which would put them in a draft position where they can trade up for Ward if they must.

This Dolphins situation with Tagovailoa is just something to watch as the NFL season moves forward as now there is reason for Miami to target one of the top QB’s in the 2025 NFL Draft.
