Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers saw his 2025 NFL Draft stock rise significantly after his stellar performance against Michigan this weekend. Ewers completed 67 percent of his passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Texas Longhorns to an impressive 31-12 victory over the 10th-ranked Wolverines.

In this game, Ewers showcased several NFL-caliber traits, most notably his strong pocket presence. According to Pro Football Focus, he took a sack on just 9.1 percnet of his pressured dropbacks, doing an excellent job sliding within the pocket. A key example was his first touchdown pass, where he stepped up in the pocket to hit his receiver for the first score of the game.

Ewers also demonstrated impressive mobility outside the pocket, making big throws on the move. One standout moment came on a touchdown pass that was negated by a penalty, where he rolled right, squared his hips to the line of scrimmage, and delivered a perfect strike across the field.

2025 NFL Draft: What stood out in Quinn Ewers' performance vs Michigan

One of the most impressive aspects of Ewers' game was his accuracy. A highlight came in the first quarter when he threaded the needle, hitting a receiver between two defenders in Cover 2 for a big gain. This kind of precise placement, especially throwing to the outside shoulder, is exactly what we teach quarterbacks at Blair Quarterback Academy. Additionally, Ewers consistently hit his receivers in stride, allowing them to rack up yards after the catch.

However, one area of concern remains his ball security in the pocket. Ewers has a tendency to hold the ball low and with one hand, a habit that has led to fumbles in the past. According to Pro Football Focus, he's fumbled 10 times over the past two seasons. This is something he'll need to clean up to avoid costly turnovers at the next level.

Another area for improvement is his lower body mechanics on deep throws. While it wasn’t an issue in this game, Ewers has had problems in the past when he relies too much on his arm, rather than rotating his lower body for more velocity.

Looking ahead, Ewers has the potential to lead the Longhorns to a top seed in the College Football Playoff. The biggest challenge on their schedule is their October 19th showdown with Georgia, the most talented team they'll face. With Alabama absent from their regular-season schedule, the only way the Longhorns may see the Crimson Tide is in the SEC Championship game, which is the only other loss I could see them having before the playoffs start.

As for his draft prospects, Ewers has a chance to significantly improve his standing. Although I rated him as the most overrated player in the 2025 NFL Draft going into the season, if he continues to play like he did on Saturday, he could easily secure a spot in the top 50 picks.
