2024 NFL Mock Draft: Day 2 selections for each AFC North team; Steelers stock up
By Beau Adams
For their last pick on day 2 of the NFL Mocks Midseason mock draft for the AFC North, the Steelers use No. 78 on DJ James, Auburn's cornerback.
James' instincts are remarkable, and his route recognition is remarkable. He has the speed required to get back on track. His ball handling is outstanding, with good hands and the potential to score whenever he has the ball. He is a graceful athlete with decent speed, and his length allows him to cover downfield effectively. He does well in zone coverage, displaying an impressive comprehension of routes and the ability to shut down quickly.
James has an excellent combination of length, speed, and agility. He is at his best when shadowing paths underneath, exhibiting smooth motion skills and the ability to alter directions without warning. He keeps an eye on the ball well downfield and demonstrates good ball skills, including the capability to get airborne and make a catch under challenging circumstances.
It's not a sexy pick, but mid-third-round starters are what wins you the challenging games late in the season. Tomlin will love James' scrappy work ethic, and he will be a Steeler for years.
