At No. 74, the Commanders are taking the versatile Clemson running back Will Shipley. This is an amazing pick for the new-look Commanders; they have changed the offensive dynamic with one third-round pick.

Will Shipley, the Clemson Tigers running back, has taken considerable steps to become a more complete player. His agility and skill set make him a significant part of the Clemson offensive team. When Shipley is in the open field, he can make defenders scramble as he has great field vision and can make sudden changes of direction. He can also be used in a variety of ways, including as a pass-catcher and kick-returner, which gives him an advantage in the race to make the 53-man roster.

His running style is slicing, but he can vary his approach and go straight for the line of scrimmage when needed. He makes smart choices and maximizes his gains for tough yards.

Shipley exhibits strong passing game abilities; his hands are natural, and he knows how to set up wheel routes. He is quick on his feet and has decent speed, but not enough to be a constant playmaker. He has improved his ability to wait for blocking and can make the right decisions in the open field.

His balance, agility and control enable him to pick up chunks of yardage. He is best in open space and can act as a receiver, creating mismatches with linebackers, and is proficient in the screen game. He has an instinctual sense for making defenders miss, and his speed and acceleration make him a threat when he plants his foot.

If you are reading that correctly, one name should pop into your mind—Christian McCaffrey, the all-pro gadget back that has lit the NFL on fire. Shipley is the poor man, McCaffrey.

Sam Howell, a beefed up O-line, Mclauren, Dotson, Worthy plus Logan Thomas, and now Will Shipley as a breach out safety valve, the Commanders are an exciting team in 2024. Oh, and they still have the No. 96 pick coming up.
