Tyler Allgeier, RB, BYU

To say the focus was on BYU running back Tyler Allgeier in the BYU vs Utah State game is an understatement. Going into the game the Cougars were down two offensive linemen, tight end Masen Wake and starting quarterback Jaren Hall. If this were not enough the team also lost backup quarterback Baylor Romney right before halftime. Despite all this though Allgeier had the best game of his career.

Allgeier finished the night with 22 rushes for 218 yards and three touchdowns. His best rush of the night by far was his 68 yard run for a score where he showed good vision cutting across the field to avoid tacklers. He also was able to help out in the passing game as he hauled in three receptions for 22 yards.

When evaluating Allgeier the first thing that stands out is his powerful running style and size. Coming in at 5-foot-11 and 220 pounds he is one of the thicker running backs in the 2022 NFL Draft. This size fits perfectly with his running style as he loves to run over defenders and routinely shows the balance to keep his feet after initial contact.

What will likely cause him to fall to the third day of the 2022 NFL Draft is his lack of ideal speed. He is far from a homerun threat and even on his 68-yard touchdown rusher defenders were able to catch up with him. Another issue NFL teams might have with him is his running style. He tends to run with a high pad level which leads to him losing some of his power and also exposes him to big hits.
