Going into the season the number one quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft was Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma, but as the season goes on that is starting to change. The player who is starting to take over that spot is Liberty quarterback Malik Willis, and his latest showing against UAB is proving why.

Against the Blazers he showed the playmaking ability that makes him such a highly regarded prospect. He made several impressive plays on the ground including having four rushing attempts of over 20 yards and finishing with 144 yards rushing on the day. As a passer, he completed 68% of his passes while throwing for 287 yards and a touchdown.

Overall this season Willis has looked like a much-improved player compared to 2020 when he was more of an athlete who played quarterback. For example, he has made much better decisions as a passer this season and has yet to throw an interception on the year. He has also improved his accuracy going from completing 64% of his passes last year to 71% this season.

When looking at the right fit for Willis next year he will need to go to a team that loves to use its quarterback as part of the run game. This is due to the fact his legs are still his best asset and a team would be nuts to not take advantage of this area of his game. In terms of the passing game, he would likely fit best in an offense that likes to sprint out their quarterback instead of having him drop back in the pocket.
