Aaron Rodgers reuniting with Randall Cobb would be a huge deal

The Green Bay Packers are attempting to repair their broken relationship with Aaron Rodgers. Bringing back Randall Cobb is a huge step.

Is Jordy Nelson ready to strap on the shoulder pads and helmet and get back to the field? The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers might consider giving him a call to bring the band all back together after the team apparently has made a move (or is in the process of doing so) to bring Randall Cobb back to Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers also drafted slot receiver Amari Rodgers this year and Allen Lazard has made progress over the last couple of seasons as a legitimate outside weapon along with Davante Adams.

If this is going to be the “last dance” with Aaron Rodgers, Adams, and the Packers, it’s going to have some nostalgia to go along with it.

The Houston Texans’ recent acquisition of Anthony Miller likely paved the way for this move to happen, and it’s a pretty massive one for Green Bay.

Although Randall Cobb has just one season with over 1,000 yards to his name, the slot receiver has been outstanding when catching passes from Aaron Rodgers, and he’s proven to be efficient in two seasons (2019 with Dallas, 2020 with Houston) away from the Packers.

More than just on-field impact, the decision by the Green Bay Packers to bring Cobb back into the fold has everything to do with appeasing Aaron Rodgers. If the Packers planned on or assumed that Rodgers was going to be gone after this season, would they really make a trade for Cobb?

You could make a case either way, but I’m going to say no.

Although Aaron Rodgers has certainly made some bold public statements about his relationship with Packers brass, this is a clear way for general manager Brian Gutekunst to mend that fence.

Bringing Cobb back into the fold will certainly make Rodgers a happy camper, but the Packers also re-worked his deal to give Rodgers the freedom to essentially decide whether or not he wants to be on the team beyond this season.

All of a sudden, the Packers are giving in to Aaron Rodgers’ demands and it seems he’s getting some sway with the front office as well.

Although Rodgers certainly knows how to hold a grudge, he has also expressed in the past his desire to play his entire career with one team. The 2021 offseason nearly put an abrupt and shocking end to that.

Who knows what the future holds for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess. We could be bracing for a major move for the longtime Packers QB and reigning league MVP next offseason.

At the same time, if Brian Gutekunst is willing to keep Rodgers in the loop and include him on personnel decisions that directly affect the QB, perhaps Rodgers will pull a Jack Byrnes and let Gutekunst back into his “circle of trust.”
