NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance land in perfect situations
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 16th overall
The Arizona Cardinals would probably rather keep working on their offensive attack as they look to build a strong group around Kyler Murray. However, this defense still needs a lot of work and they have a particularly massive need at the cornerback position. Jaycee Horn stands out as a nice value pick in this range and would fill an obvious need on the roster.
Horn is an extremely physical cornerback prospect who shines in press coverage at the line of scrimmage. He is a tough player who uses his long arms and a powerful initial punch to immediately make life difficult for receivers at the line of scrimmage. He is not particularly fluid in space but changes directions well enough to maintain good man coverage against most players. Horn also shows good deep speed which is extremely important for the cornerback position.
While Horn’s physicality can be a major strength, he does tend to play a bit too grabby at times. Horn plays the receiver extremely well in man coverage but his physical style of play may get him into more trouble in the NFL than it did in college.
While Horn is not a perfect player, he is undoubtedly a gifted cornerback prospect who would fill a major position of need for the Arizona Cardinals. In today’s NFL, where the passing game is king, having impact talent at the cornerback position is extremely important. In Horn, the Cardinals find themselves a player in this 2021 NFL mock draft who can quickly grow into a true No. 1 cornerback for the team.
