2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 2nd overall

BYU. 2. player. 30. QB. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Zach Wilson

As we get close to April, it seems more and more likely that the New York Jets will take Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Maybe they decide to keep Sam Darnold and trade the pick, and do not rule Justin Fields out as an option. However, all signs point towards the Jets making Zach Wilson their new franchise quarterback.

Showing fantastic natural playmaking ability and improvising skills, Wilson is an ideal fit for the modern NFL. He senses pressure well and does a great job of remaining calm in the pocket. Wilson is a bit of a gunslinger who is always looking for the big play. This may get him into trouble at times at the next level, but he has the arm talent to get away with making risky throws.

Wilson is undoubtedly an exciting quarterback prospect who has major upside at the next level. If the New York Jets can bring him in and build around him properly, they could quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the AFC East for many years.

That being said, with Wilson’s college success coming against a lower level of competition, it is fair to question his ability to translate well to the next level. Plays that he was able to get away with at BYU could easily become turnovers against NFL defenses.
