2. Travis Kelce, 3rd round, 2013 NFL Draft

The best tight end in the NFL is Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs. Kelce has put up outstanding production throughout his career as has been named to the Pro Bowl six straight years and has also been named an All-Pro three times. This season, Kelce led tight ends in receptions with 105 and receiving yards with 1,416 yards. He also just set the NFL record for most yards in a season by a tight end with 1,643 (including the playoffs).

It is funny now to look back on scouting reports on Kelce when he was coming out of college. For example, one scouting report from Bucs Nation mentions how they didn’t see any special traits from Kelce as a receiver. The scouting community also was not overly high on Kelce as he was the sixth tight end drafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, with guys such as Gavin Escobar and Vance McDonald being drafted ahead of him.

No matter how you look at it, Kelce has outlived the expectations people had for him coming out of college. He will also likely go down as one of the best players to ever play his position, and be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
