4. Chris Jones, 2nd round, 2016 NFL Draft

One of the most dominant players in the NFL over the past couple of seasons has been Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones. In the past three years, Jones has recorded 32 sacks including 15.5 in 2018. He has also been named to the Pro Bowl each of the past three seasons.

The questions with Jones coming out of Mississippi State had to deal with his character. Despite only have one run-in with the law during his time in college for driving with a suspended license teams were scared off by his off-the-field behavior. As one scout told Bleacher Report, Jones just “doesn’t get it” off the field. One other concern with him was that he was inconsistent and didn’t play hard every play.

Possibly the thing that is surprising about Jones is how much of a dominant pass rusher he has become in the NFL. During his college career, he only accounted for 8.5 sacks over three years. He has had more than 8.5 sacks in two of his five seasons for the Chiefs already and was just one off of that number this year.

Jones has answered the concerns about his character and inconsistent play enough to earn himself a four-year, $80 million dollar contract. He has also become one of the Chiefs leaders and has had no off the field issues since entering the NFL. Not bad for the 37th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
