Green Bay Packers 7-round NFL mock draft: Adding more explosiveness
The broken record that has been fans and analysts chirping about the Green Bay Packers not getting enough weapons around Aaron Rodgers won’t be silent this offseason. After neglecting to take a receiver in the 2020 draft, fans were beside themselves.
The good news is that Marquez Valdes-Scantling, despite numerous dropped touchdowns in 2020, had a very good game against the Bucs. His speed and ability to stretch the field was recognized this season, and he’s gained Rodgers’ trust. Allen Lazard played well too as a reliable possession receiver, and his willingness to block doesn’t go unnoticed.
The difference is that the Packers shouldn’t settle for what was “good enough” in 2020. It’s time to go all in. The wide receiver class is good at the top once again, and it’s time to draft one early. The Packers do here in round two, selecting Oklahoma State’s Tylan Wallace.
Wallace brings natural explosiveness to his game, something the Packers could use more of. His ability to find a second gear after the catch is something this offense would covet, and he’s got rare body control and ball skills in contested spots. He’s getting better as a route runner, showing explosiveness in and out of his breaks. Wallace could come in and produce immediately as the number two option.
