Cam Newton is obviously not the long-term solution to the New England Patriots’ quarterback dilemma and Jarrett Stidham doesn’t seem to be the answer either. Thankfully, the 2021 NFL draft has a quarterback class possessing a deep roster of high-end NFL talent.

The quarterback seemingly placed onto the tail-end of these top quarterback prospects though is possibly the best fit for New England.

Alabama’s Mac Jones stands at a pedestrian six-foot-two, 205 pounds, and is not going to overwhelm viewers with his athleticism nor his arm strength. Jones though, has exactly what Belichick needs in his quarterback, an internal clock and understanding of the offensive schedule.

When Belichick coached Tom Brady to his first super bowl victory, the New England offensive philosophy centered around complementing their dominant defense, and history is seemingly repeating itself.

The issue that strikes me most in Jones’ game though has been the lack of coordination between his upper and lower body. Under pressure, Jones keeps his throwing mechanics above the waist effective but shows a very different reaction with frantic footwork and an inconsistent throwing platform.

This repeated issue has reared its ugly face on numerous occasions with poorly placed balls to open receivers. It is a simple issue that if fixed by the New England Patriots’ coaching staff could turn Jones into a top-three quarterback of the 2021 NFL draft.
