Pick Analysis. WR. Minnesota. Rashod Bateman. 15. Scouting Report. 47. player

The New England Patriots offense has had its own share of issues ever since quarterback Cam Newton returned from his fight against COVID-19. A major part of the problem has been a lack of raw talent and physical stature among his receiving targets.

Second-year receiver N’Keal Harry has failed to meet expectations, veteran slot receiver Julian Edelman has struggled with health constantly in recent years, and the only player to rise to the challenge has been N.C. State standout Jakobi Meyers.

Rashod Bateman is the conventional six-foot-one wideout within nearly every draft class who combines sharp route-running with his physical tools to operate as a number one receiver. Although wide receivers of this mold may fall behind more specialized prospects such as Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle, they continue to dominate the league with their multi-faceted balance (ex: De’Andre Hopkins, Michael Thomas, Davante Adams).

Bateman is not going to be a combine warrior who comes into the league with physical dominance, but rather a player who can fulfill his role within an offense and be the very best at it.

The New England Patriots have continued to lack a true league-leading wide receiver since the days of Randy Moss, and there is no better time to make the change than now. In an organization so successful, there are only so many opportunities to acquire such talents as Bateman, and the 2021 NFL draft is the time for New England to move in the direction of offensive star power.
