2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 3rd Overall

player. 56. 3. Oregon. Penei Sewell. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT

Honestly, this is another obvious and easy pick at this point in the process. Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell is clearly one of the best overall prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft class and the Cincinnati Bengals have a massive need on the offensive line. They simply must invest significant assets into their offensive line this offseason if they expect to get the most out of Joe Burrow going forward.

Burrow’s brutal knee injury was obviously devastating, but it is not a death sentence for this team. They still have an extremely talented young quarterback to lead their roster and they need to work to surround him with as much talent as possible. Adding Sewell here is undoubtedly a big step in the right direction.

Sewell is a tremendous athlete for an offensive lineman, showing an explosive first step and the ability to move well in space. He attacks the second level extremely well in the run game and also mirrors opposing edge rusher at a high level as a pass protector.

Sewell is undoubtedly a special athlete up front, but he is also an incredibly powerful player who can dominate at the point of attack. He shows ridiculously strong hands and often overwhelms opposing defenders with his raw power. Sewell’s power consistently shines in the run game and in pass protection.

Simply put, Sewell is an elite offensive tackle prospect who will likely come in and quickly become one of the best players at his position in the entire NFL. An offensive tackle duo of Sewell and Jonah Williams would set the Bengals up for success up front for a long time.
