No surprises here as the Jacksonville Jaguars stand pat and snag a franchise quarterback of their own. Zach Wilson may be a realistic option for some with this pick, but Justin Fields is a more well-rounded and simply better prospect at this point in the process. Trevor Lawrence is going to go first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft and Justin Fields is extremely likely to follow right behind him.
The Jaguars are going to be an extremely interesting team to watch this offseason as they move forward under new leadership. General manager David Caldwell has already been fired and head coach Doug Marrone is unlikely to make it past the season. This franchise is headed in a new direction, but there is plenty of exciting young talent on the roster worth getting excited about.
They do, however, have a massive need at the quarterback position that simply must be addressed over the offseason. Holding one of the top two picks in the 2021 NFL Draft and being in a position to snag either Lawrence or Fields would be ideal. In this mock draft, Fields is the guy to lead this franchise going forward.
Fields is a consistent threat with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to beat the defense with both his arm and his legs. He has high-level natural arm strength and impressive accuracy to all levels of the field. Fields is also an extremely mobile quarterback whose combination of size, speed and power make him a dangerous weapon on the ground.
Fields may not quite be on the same level as Lawrence, but he is not far behind. This guy is a fantastic quarterback prospect who undoubtedly has a bright future at the next level. If the Jags can continue to stock-pile talent around him, they could quickly turn their fortunes around.
