Recapping the three-round haul for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the recent 2021 NFL mock draft at NFL Mocks.

On Monday morning, a brand new 2021 NFL mock draft dropped on NFL Mocks and this time we went three rounds deep with our predictions. This kind of mock draft allows us to look a bit deeper into the class and see how draft classes for specific teams can take shape.

With this mock draft fresh on the mind, I wanted to take a look at some specific draft hauls and talk about that team’s class as a whole. We started with the New York Jets, and here, we are going to dig into the mock draft haul of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In this mock draft scenario, the Jacksonville Jaguars held the second overall selection and five picks  through the first three rounds. Taking a quarterback right away was the easy choice, but how did we choose to build around their new franchise quarterback? The Jaguars’ complete three-round haul came together as followed:

Round 1, 2nd Overall: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
Round 1, 26th Overall (via LAR): Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
Round 2, 34th Overall: Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia
Round 2, 48th Overall (via MIN): Paris Ford, S, Pittsburgh
Round 3, 66th Overall: Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest

Justin Fields would be the top quarterback in almost any NFL Draft class in recent memory. Trevor Lawrence being around is the only reason that Fields is not going to be the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Make no mistake about it, both of these guys are elite quarterback prospects who will grow into stars at the next level. If Fields is a consolation prize, he is an absolutely incredible one.

As long as the Jacksonville Jaguars end up holding one of the top two picks, they should be happy. Snagging Fields at No. 2 gives them a legitimate franchise quarterback who they can build their entire team around. Bringing Fields into the mix would undoubtedly take the Jaguars to the next level.

Jacksonville Jaguars beef up the offensive line

The Jaguars also hold a late first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, a pick that they received from the Los Angeles Rams in the Jalen Ramsey deal. With that extra first-round selection, the Jaguars make a major offensive line addition by bringing in Notre Dame offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg.

Eichenberg is a rock-solid offensive tackle prospect who could come in and make an immediate impact for the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Cam Robinson hitting free agency this offseason, left tackle could end up being a massive need for this team in the 2021 NFL Draft. Even if Robinson returns, the Jags could mix up the offensive line and make a guy like Eichenberg fit.

The secondary was at the center of attention for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of this mock draft, as they were able to bring in Georgia cornerback Eric Stokes and Pittsburgh safety Paris Ford. Stokes is a long and athletic cornerback who shines in man coverage. Pairing him with C.J. Henderson on the outside would give the Jaguars an extremely talented duo at the cornerback position.

Ford is a do-it-all safety who shows great natural athletic ability and plays with fantastic physicality. He has plenty of upside as a deep-zone defender and is especially dynamic when he is asked to play downhill and attack near the line of scrimmage. Simply put, Ford is an extremely gifted football player who has massive upside at the next level.

With their final pick of this mock draft, the Jaguars brought in Wake Forest wide receiver Sage Surratt. Surratt is a big and athletic wide receiver who shows impressive natural route running ability and physical at the catch point. Wide receiver is not the Jags’ biggest need on the roster, but they could certainly use some help at the position and Surratt could come in and be an immediate impact target for Fields in the passing game.

The most important part of this for the Jags was obviously being able to land Fields. He is the kind of player who can come in and completely reshape the direction of the organization. However, I believe that the Jaguars were also able to add impact players at other positions of need and build well around their new franchise quarterback. Agree? Disagree?
