New York Jets: Three-round 2021 NFL mock draft recap
Recapping the three-round haul for the New York Jets in the recent 2021 NFL mock draft at NFL Mocks.
On Monday morning, a brand-new 2021 NFL mock draft dropped on NFL Mocks and this time, we went three rounds deep with our predictions. This kind of mock draft allows us to look a bit deeper into the class and see how draft classes for specific teams can take shape. With this mock draft fresh on the mind, I wanted to take a look at some specific draft hauls and look at the class as a whole. Let’s get this started with a look at the New York Jets.
As will be likely in the actual 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets held the first overall pick in this mock draft. Their complete three-round haul is as followed:
Round 1, 1st Overall: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Round 1, 22nd Overall (via SEA): DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Round 2, 33rd Overall: Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
Round 3, 65th Overall: Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford
Round 3, 85th Overall (via SEA): Shaka Toney, EDGE, Penn State
Obviously, the big story here is taking Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick. Lawrence is the best quarterback prospect in recent memory and is the obvious choice for any team picking No. 1. He is the kind of player who can come in and take any franchise to the next level, even one in as bad of shape as the Jets.
Adding Lawrence to the mix is obviously key, but he is going to need some help. If the Jets can grab the kind of impact talent with their next two picks in the actual 2021 NFL Draft that they did in this mock draft, they are going to be in good shape.
New York Jets give Lawrence exciting offensive weapons
DeVonta Smith at No. 22 overall is an absolute steal, but the depth of the wide receiver position in this class could cause a slip like this to happen. Smith is an elite route runner who could come in and make an impact for the Jets as a short, intermediate and deep weapon.

At the top of the second round, the Jets were able to snag Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth. Freiermuth is a big and athletic target who is a consistent playmaker in the middle of the field and also has plenty of value as an inline blocker. He would also undoubtedly be a steal in this range.
Adding Smith and Freiermuth to the Jets’ mix of offensive weapons would undoubtedly be a big step in the right direction. Lawrence would walk into his rookie season with Smith and Denzel Mims as exciting playmakers on the outside, Jamison Crowder as a weapon in the slot and Freiermuth as a valuable safety net and weapon in the red zone. Not a bad group for the Jets to build around going forward.
With their two third-round selections, the New York Jets made investments on the defensive side of the ball, adding cornerback Paulson Adebo early in the round and edge defender Shaka Toney late.
Adebo is not the most impressive physical specimen at the cornerback position, but he is a smart and decisive player who always seems to be in a good position. He would be a strong addition at the cornerback position who could provide both immediate and long-term value.
Toney is more of a high-upside player who is a bit of a flyer in this range. Toney is explosive off of the ball and shows great bend around the edge. He is a bit of a project player, but Toney could quickly grow into an impact defender at an important position of need for the New York Jets.
Overall, the Jets were able to make significant additions on both sides of the ball in this mock draft, making the most out of their extra draft capital. This team undoubtedly has a lot of work to do, but a 2021 NFL Draft haul like this would undoubtedly be a massive step in the right direction. Agree? Disagree?
