2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 7th Overall

Scouting Report. CB. player. Pick Analysis. Alabama. Patrick Surtain II. 7. 45

The Denver Broncos have done a nice job of adding young, impact talent in recent years, and appear to have a bright future ahead of them. If quarterback Drew Lock grows into a legitimate franchise quarterback, this will be a good football team that should compete in the AFC in the near future. That being said, they undoubtedly still have some work to do.

The Broncos have mostly addressed their offensive attack through the draft in recent years, so in this mock draft, they give some attention to the defense. Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II is the pick here at No. 7.

Surtain is a smart and athletic cornerback prospect who shows impressive playmaking ability on the outside. He has the size, speed, and quickness combination need to suffocate opposing receivers in man coverage and also shows fantastic natural instincts in zone. Surtain is a strong and stable cornerback prospect who has the skills needed to grow into a lockdown guy on the outside.

While the Broncos have gotten strong play out of rookie cornerback Michael Ojemudia this season, the position still stands out as a need. Surtain and Ojemudia could quickly turn the position into a major strength for the Broncos as they look to get back on track.
