2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 6th Overall

QB. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 58. North Dakota State. Trey Lance. 6

The Washington Football Team deciding to bench quarterback Dwayne Haskins was surprising, but it does make their 2021 NFL Draft intentions pretty obvious. While nothing is guaranteed, expect Washington to take a quarterback early in the 2021 NFL Draft, probably in the first round. With Trey Lance on the board here at No. 6, this decision is easy.

Lance is a bit of an underdeveloped quarterback prospect, but his ceiling at the next level is seemingly unlimited. Lance shows an impressive combination of natural athleticism and raw arm talent that makes him an ideal fit for the modern NFL. He is a tremendous playmaker with the ball in his hands and has the arm needed to hit any throw on the field.

Lance is also a strong decision-maker who does not force the ball often. He will push the ball down the field when needed, but Lance does a great job of simply taking what the defense gives him as well.

Investing in a one-year starter out of North Dakota State with the sixth overall pick may seem crazy, but Lance is a special quarterback prospect who needs to be taken seriously in this range. Washington needs a franchise quarterback in the worst way, and while Lance may be a bit risky, he has the talent to completely reshape this organization.
