QB1 to the NFL, How Netflix could shape the NFL Draft
By Kyle Edmond
Season 2: Sam Hartman, Quarterback, Wake Forest
Like Fields, Sam Hartman was the second player from the show to commit to his school of choice, following Tayvon Bowers to Wake Forest. However, Hartman nearly immediately saw time on the field, earning the starting job out of camp as a freshman. As a true freshman, Hartman started nine games in 2018, leading the team to four wins while breaking multiple freshman program records, including a 378-passing yard game to kickoff his collegiate career.
Despite his success, a broken leg ended Hartman’s season. The injury rolled into the 2019 season with Wake Forest only using Hartman in four games, giving him a redshirt on the season.
With Jamie Newman moving on to Georgia now, the road is wide open for Hartman to reclaim the reigns of the offense and pick up where he left off. He will enter the 2020 season as a redshirt sophomore and 3,178 career total offensive yards, which is 22nd in program history, leaving room for Hartman to continue to break records in Dave Clawson’s offense.
Although he wasn’t a top prospect while on the show, being just the 47th overall quarterback in his class according to 247Sports, Hartman is showcasing his skills at the collegiate level. With countless records already showing his name, he can continue to build his resume and help revitalize the Deacons.
I’m expecting Hartman to have a breakout season in 2020 if he can stay healthy and thrust his name into the NFL Draft talk of the future, marking another alum of the show to potentially hear his name called.
