Season 2: Re-al Mitchell, Quarterback, Temple (Iowa State)

Re-al Mitchell wasn’t the only quarterback to head to Ames in 2018. He was joined by Brock Purdy, who has now taken over the starting job of the Cyclones, pushing Mitchell to announce his transfer to Temple just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for Mitchell, the trend of him being the No. 2 quarterback on the roster began during the show’s run in his senior season and rolled into his time at Iowa State.

During the 2018 season at Iowa State, Mitchell saw action in one game, earning a redshirt for the season. As for his second season, he played in five games as Purdy’s backup, going 2-for-4 passing with a touchdown and adding 100 yards rushing on 11 carries with another touchdown. After the season, if not well before, it was evident that a transfer was coming from Mitchell.

Earlier this month, he announced his intentions to transfer to Temple, becoming the show’s fourth star of six to transfer from the first two seasons. At Temple, Mitchell will have a shot to start eventually, but 2019 starter, and now graduate student, Anthony Russo will be back in 2020, meaning more bench time for Mitchell before he can return to being a starting quarterback.
