2021 NFL Draft: Trey Lance lands in top five of way-too-early mock draft
Cincinnati Bengals’ projected win total: 6.7
Gregory Rousseau 2019 stats: 54 total tackles (19.5 for loss) and 15.5 sacks.
I really wanted to pair Joe Burrow with his number one target at LSU, Ja’Marr Chase, with the No. 4 pick of this mock draft, but after the Cincinnati Bengals followed the Burrow pick with the selection of Tee Higgins in the 2020 NFL Draft, that seems unlikely. It is fun to think about though. Instead, the Bengals fill a defensive need in this 2021 NFL Draft scenario, taking edge rusher Gregory Rousseau out of Miami.
Taking a high-level offensive lineman to protect would probably be ideal for the Bengals in this mock draft, but the value simply is not there. With Carl Lawson hitting free agency next offseason, edge rusher could quickly become a major need for Cincinnati in the 2021 NFL Draft. Gregory Rousseau had an impressive 2019 season and with a strong 2020 campaign, could quickly become the top defensive prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class.
Rousseau is extremely quick off of the ball and explosive around the edge. He has extremely long arms and closes on the quarterback quickly. Rousseau is an exciting speed rusher who can create consistent pressure on the passer and shows plenty of upside as a run defender as well.
An extremely talented and hard-working player who also plays a premium position, Rousseau has a chance to become one of the premier prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft class. The Bengals landing him in this mock draft is among their best-case scenarios.
