2020 NFL Draft: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Grades
By Evan Bachman
I am amongst those who believe that running backs don’t matter very much and shouldn’t be picked high. Running backs simply don’t generate as much value as other positions. Although it takes a lot of natural talent to play running back and they may be the key to winning fantasy leagues, they are still overvalued in the NFL. Part of the reason you shouldn’t select running backs high is that you can find players like Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the third round.
Vaughn is someone who will succeed if the team around him is good and with how stacked the Buccaneers offense he is coming into a great situation. He is at his best in the open field because he is elusive, is great at cutting, and has breakaway speed. He also has good vision as a runner and capabilities as a receiver.
He started his at Illinois and played two seasons before transferring to Vanderbilt. Throughout his career, he’s produced as both a runner and a receiver. He’s rushed for at least 700 yards and had double-digit receptions in three of his four seasons.
Ultimately, even though I don’t like the positional value, I believe Vaughn will have success in the Buccaneers offense. He’ll have to compete with former second pick Ronald Jones for touches but, I think he’ll get his fair share of opportunities and make the most out of them.
