2020 NFL Draft: New York Giants late-round sleeper targets
By Andrew Kim
WR- Lawrence Cager, Georgia
The Giants have a few slot receivers and deep threats on their roster. Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard have inside/outside versatility while Darius Slayton took the top off defenses last year as their main speedster. Corey Coleman, Cody Core, Reggie White Jr. (from Monmouth), and David Sills are the main names that fill out the rest of their receiving core. What they are missing is a bigger receiver that can play on the outside, not counting Evan Engram.
Enter in Lawrence Cager, the former Hurricane receiver that transferred to Georgia last year. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, the redshirt senior did not contribute much in 2019 due to injuries. Cager could be a developmental backup or role player to start and he could mold into a red zone contested-catch specialist. His talent was hampered by injuries at both schools and could be good value after the last two rounds.
TE- Charlie Taumoepeau, Portland State
There are rumors that Evan Engram may not be on the Giants for long but either way, they do need more depth at that position as he has been missing games due to injury the last two years. Signing Levine Toilolo and bringing back Eric Tomlinson does not move the needle too much, as Kaden Smith was a starter last year and was what you would expect for an undrafted rookie. They also have Garrett Dickerson and undrafted rookie C.J. Conrad from last year.
Charlie Taumoepeau is a versatile tight end and H-back, as he was injured a bit last year at Portland State. At 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, the senior is on the shorter side for a traditional tight end but he can be used in the backfield or as a receiver. Taumoepeau may stick on the roster as a potential 7th round pick or undrafted free agent as a potential special teamer.
