2020 NFL Draft: Potential trade-up targets for Minnesota Vikings
By David Glancy
Out of all positions in the 2020 Draft class, no group appears to be deeper in talent than at wide receiver. Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs III, and Justin Jefferson are all likely to go in the first round while Denzel Mims, Jalen Reagor, Brandon Aiyuk, and Laviska Shenault Jr. could go as high as the first. After trading star Stefon Diggs to the Bills, it is unlikely the Vikings would use a first-round selection as a replacement, and more unlikely they would move up in the first.
The Minnesota Vikings will need to address the loss of their leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns since entering the league and given the talent in the 2020 NFL Draft, could use a second and mid-round pick to address Diggs’s departure. As Adam Thielen can line up at any position, the Vikings have the option to take any receiver. Denzel Mims would be the best fit as an outside option if he is not selected in the first round.
Shenault Jr. is another do-it-all receiver who can line up in multiple looks and give Cousins a physical target. The former JUCO star Aiyuk had a dominant senior year at Arizona State accounting for over 1,000 yards and 18 yards per reception. Aiyuk is dangerous with the ball and would be an immediate playmaker.
The Vikings could move up on day two to select burners Jalen Reagor or K.J. Hamler. Both are vertical threats and would be effective slot receivers. Adding Reagor or Hamler gives the Vikings big-play potential and a dangerous group of receivers if paired with Thielen and a mid-round selection like Tyler Johnson.
