2020 NFL Draft: Potential trade-up targets for Minnesota Vikings
By David Glancy
The Minnesota Vikings are looking to address the loss of defensive end Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph. While Griffen remains a free agent, the Vikings appear to be moving forward with fourth-year end Ifeadi Odenigbo. Odenigbo was originally drafted by the Vikings in the seventh round of the 2017 Draft and spent time with the Browns and Cardinals before returning to Minnesota. Joseph was replaced in free agency with former Raven, Michael Pierce.
While the Vikings are not expected to prioritize defensive line over the offensive line or secondary, it is likely they will look to add competition for Odenigbo and Pierce. Chase Young is a step above other ends Yetur Gross-Matos and A.J. Epenesa and will not fall out of the top three. Gross-Matos and Epenesa will likely be available when the Vikings draft at 22 and perhaps again at 25.
Derrick Brown and Javon Kinlaw are the top-rated defensive tackles and both could go in the top 10 of the 2020 NFL Draft. If teams were to move up for Tagovailoa, Herbert, or Love, it is possible Kinlaw could fall to the middle of the first round. There is a drop after Kinlaw with Ross Blacklock, Neville Gallimore, Marlon Davidson, Justin Madubuike, and Raekwon Davis as second-round options.
The Vikings could make a move for a defensive tackle with their second-round pick or move up in the second for Blacklock or Gallimore. If Kinlaw were to fall on draft day, he would be the most enticing first-round trade-up target given the drop in talent at defensive tackle as opposed to receiver, corner, or offensive line.
