player. Scouting Report. Clemson. Isaiah Simmons. 4. Pick Analysis. LB/S. 31

I always struggle with this pick. The New York Giants hold the fourth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and it is difficult to predict which direction they will go. Taking a premier offensive tackle to help protect Daniel Jones and create rushing lanes for Saquon Barkley would certainly make some sense. However, they are also in a position here to take the player who could lead their defense for many years.

Isaiah Simmons is the most unique and one of the most exciting prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft class. He is a tremendous natural athlete who made plays all over the field in college. Simmons legitimately played off-ball linebacker, deep safety, slot cornerback and even edge rusher for Clemson. No matter where he lined up, Simmons was always making plays. He is a tremendous sideline-to-sideline defender who also shows tremendous natural instincts in coverage.

The key for the Giants here would be to make sure not to pigeon-hole Simmons into one spot. He is not just a linebacker prospect. This guy is a tremendous defensive playmaker who can impact the game in a variety of ways. It would be up to new head coach Joe Judge and the Giants’ defensive staff to make sure to make the most out of Simmons’ abilities and ridiculous upside.

Passing on one of the premier offensive tackles here is tough, but Simmons is an absolute game-changer who can come in and immediately take the Giants’ defense to the next level.
