With the first of three third-round picks in this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Detroit Lions take safety Ashtyn Davis. The Lions have already invested in the safety position this offseason, trading for Duron Harmon from the New England Patriots and signing Jayron Kearse as a free agent. However, this team still needs quality players at the position.

Davis is an extremely gifted safety prospect who has tremendous upside at the next level. He is an incredibly fast and explosive player who has fantastic range on the back-end. Davis attacks the ball in the air extremely well and also shows great toughness as an in-the-box defender. He is a fantastic overall defensive playmaker who could quickly grow into an important player for the Lions in the secondary.

Scouting Report. Florida State. 50. Pick Analysis. RB. Cam Akers. 71. player

I doubt that the Detriot Lions make an overly significant investment in the running back position, but if the right opportunity presents itself, I would not be surprised to see them try to add some talent at the position. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, that opportunity comes up early in the third round with Cam Akers on the board.

Akers shows an impressive combination of quick feet, burst through the hole and power at the point of contact. He also maintains his balance well and shows the ability to make plays as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.

Akers was not the most productive player in college, but he did not have a strong offensive line creating holes for him either. Can Akers improve his ball carrier vision with an improved offensive line or will vision continue to be an issue at the next level? That is the major question here.
