Detroit Lions 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Stockpiling talent
Edge rusher stands out as a major need for this team, but unfortunately, the class is not exactly loaded at the position. Instead of reaching for the need earlier in this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Detroit Lions sit back and take another familiar face from the Senior Bowl North squad.
Bradlee Anae is a powerful and high-motor player who shows an impressive initial burst off of the line of scrimmage. He is not the most flexible or athletic player on the edge, but Anae is a tenacious defender who sets the edge well and shows tremendous overall hand usage. He is a solid and dependable player who could come in and make an immediate impact for the Detroit Lions at an important position of need.
Evan Weaver is not the most natural athlete at the linebacker position, but he is a smart, tough and aggressive player who excels as a run defender. Weaver always puts himself in a strong position to make plays on the field and is an extremely reliable tackler at all times.
While he does have some limitations in coverage, Weaver does show some nice instincts as a zone coverage linebacker. I expect that he will be able to hold his own in this area at the next level. However, even if he struggles in coverage, he could be a rock-solid run-defending linebacker who also brings special teams value.
