First-Round 2020 NFL mock draft with updated 2020 NFL Draft order
Tee Higgins just feels like a perfect fit for the Buffalo Bills. If he is available when they go on the clock in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, they would be crazy to take anybody else. Higgins is a big and athletic wide receiver prospect who has an incredible catch radius. He does not separate particularly well, but Higgins seemingly catches everything and can create a bit after the catch.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen has shown some significant improvement this season, but he is still a relatively inaccurate quarterback who could use a guy with a massive catch radius like Higgins. If he is available, lock this in, Higgins is a perfect fit for the Bills.
With cornerbacks going off of the board quickly earlier in this mock, the Minnesota Vikings turn their attention to the offensive line. Mekhi Becton is a massive offensive tackle prospect who can dominate as a run blocker. However, he also moves extremely well for a big offensive lineman. Becton is quick off of the ball and always creates push. He also uses his long arms and quick feet well to protect the quarterback.
That’s right, no quarterbacks for the Miami Dolphins in the first round of this 2020 NFL draft scenario. The Dolphins are probably more likely to take a quarterback than not, but I think this kind of scenario is possible. Here, Miami moves forward with Josh Rosen and perhaps even brings Ryan Fitzpatrick back and turn their attention to the quarterbacks in the 2021 draft.
Instead of taking a shot on some quarterback upside here, the Dolphins bring in Alabama safety Xavier McKinney. McKinney is a tremendous playmaker on the back-end who shows fantastic range and strong ball skills in deep zone coverage. He is also a strong man-to-man defender and has shown the ability to create pressure in the blitz game. McKinney is an extremely talented defensive player who could come in and help lead the Dolphins on the defensive side of the ball.
Tyler Biadasz is a mean and nasty offensive lineman who would seem to be a great fit in Seattle. Biadasz gets off of the ball quickly and has plenty of power on the inside. Whether the Seahawks would keep him at center or move him to guard, Biadasz would be a welcomed addition to their offensive line mix.
Apparently, this is the mock draft where the defensive tackles slip. Javon Kinlaw is an extremely talented defensive tackle prospect who should be taken before this in the actual 2020 NFL Draft. However, in this mock, the New England Patriots sit back and strike gold.
Kinlaw is quick off of the ball, has long arms and is strong at the point of attack. He can create pressure as a one-gap penetrator or hold his own as a two-gap defender. Whatever you need Kinlaw to do, he can get it done on the inside. Here, the Pats add an impressive defender to an already loaded defense.
Michael Thomas is the best wide receiver in the NFL, but the New Orleans Saints could certainly use some supporting talent at the position. Laviska Shenault Jr. is an explosive receiver who is a tremendous run after catch player. He can separate against man coverage, catches the ball well and always creates extra yardage after the catch. Shenault can make an impact in a variety of ways and would also be an ideal number two receiver for New Orleans.
We all know that the Kansas City Chiefs have needs in the secondary, but I think their lack of coverage linebackers is a bigger issue. The Chiefs struggle to defend opposing running backs and tight ends and it could cost them down the line.
With this pick, the Chiefs take a chance on Dylan Moses, the Alabama linebacker who tore his ACL and missed the entire 2019 season. If he is healthy, Moses is an incredibly gifted linebacker prospect who would immediately be the best coverage linebacker on this team. He is also a stout run defender who can play tough in the middle and defend from sideline-to-sideline.
We know that Aaron Rodgers is great, but the Green Bay Packers need to get him another playmaker to work with at the wide receiver position. Jalen Reagor is an extremely quick and explosive receiver who separates extremely well and can make plays with the ball in his hands. He would immediately help open up the Packers’ offense, giving Rodgers another guy he could count on in key situations.
The San Francisco 49ers have an extremely well-rounded roster that does not need much. That being said, adding some depth in the secondary would not hurt and Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell is one of the best players remaining on the board. Terrell is a smooth cornerback prospect who shows high-level athleticism and excels in press coverage. It certainly would not hurt to add another guy who can cover to the mix.
Kenneth Murray is an extremely quick and instinctive linebacker prospect who fits the modern game well. He ranges from sideline-to-sideline with ease and can work through traffic in the middle of the field. His coverage skills are a bit spotty, but this guy is an absolute tackling machine who can also create pressure in the blitz game.
This is a team that does not need much, but Murray would fill a clear need for the Baltimore Ravens in the middle of their defense.
