29. 47. Scouting Report. Tight end. Washington. Hunter Bryant. player. Pick Analysis

It’s been a less than stellar season for the Patriots, and yet they are in the driver’s seat for another first-round bye in the playoffs (it shows how high the expectations always are). The defense has been dominant once again this season under Bill Belichick, and that defense has been carrying this team. Corner Stephon Gilmore is having a defensive player of the year worthy season so far.

It’s crazy to think about it, but the offense has been holding this team back. Tom Brady isn’t having a great season, but some of that falls on his receivers. When Julian Edelman gets doubled, it’s hard for other receivers to separate against man coverage, and the Patriots struggle to sustain drives through the air. Missing Rob Gronkowski this season is more evident than ever.

The good news is that the 2020 NFL Draft has plenty of weapons to choose from. Here, the Patriots decide to pass on taking wide receivers in the first round in back to back drafts, and go with finding a replacement for Gronkowski.

Hunter Bryant may not be an exact replacement, but he’s far better than any tight end currently on the Patriots roster. At 6’2″ and 239 pounds, Bryant compares to Evan Engram from a size perspective. He would be a welcome addition to a team that struggles to separate. Bryant is a great receiving tight end with a more advanced route tree than many know. He has good speed for the position and is very good after the catch.
