Alabama. Xavier McKinney. 28. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Safety. 42. player

It’s wild to find the San Francisco 49ers in a wild card spot after their strong start to the 2019 season, but it’s been so competitive in the NFC this season. They still have a chance to secure a bye with a win in week 17 over Seattle.

The 49ers faithful probably don’t have their eyes on the 2020 NFL Draft yet, but it’s important to see the success in San Francisco be sustained for years to come. The offense is humming with Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo, and star tight end George Kittle. The defensive line has been dominant with the addition of Nick Bosa and the job Robert Saleh has done. The one area that could use a little help is the secondary.

Many analysts have started to slot Xavier McKinney as the top safety in the 2020 NFL Draft because of the struggles Delpit has had this year, and in this mock, McKinney falls in the lap of the Niners. McKinney has great range and speed for the safety position to play on the back end, but he’s also physical and instinctive near the line of scrimmage. He would be a great chess piece for the 49ers going forward, wherever he ends up playing.
