New York Jets

For a team that will most likely be well in the Andrew Thomas sweepstakes, this landing spot may seem a little odd for the New York Jets. But should GM Joe Douglas chose to go a different route in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Jones is definitely a target for them in the second round. Even if they do go tackle in the first round, there’s nothing wrong with drafting two offensive linemen in the same draft in order to protect your quarterback.

For this season, the Jets have struggled to get consistent play out of their offensive tackles. Rookie Chuma Edoga has been injured and has looked up and down in the chances he’s had to play. Both Kelvin Beachum and Brandon Shell have also dealt with injury this season in addition to being highly inconsistent on the field. Shell, who was once regarded as an up and coming star at the position could be on his way out.

The Jets have many positions of need including edge and corner, but offensive tackle is probably their largest need. If they truly want the most out of Sam Darnold, then protecting him should be high on their list of things to do. Drafting Jones in the 2020 NFL Draft would be a step in the right direction but the job shouldn’t end there.

Jones could come in and start day one at left tackle should the Jets choose to end their marriage to Beachum. If they choose to press on with Beachum, then Jones could flip to right tackle and be a stable protector for Darnold.
