Round 1, No. 16 Overall: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

The board falls perfectly here and the Miami Dolphins land their quarterback of the future. It’s clear they don’t believe in Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick is just a filler. In this mock, Tua Tagovailoa goes in the top 12 and Justin Herbert falls into the Dolphins lap.

Many fans and some of the NFL Draft community aren’t super high on Herbert and believe he’s just a big-armed quarterback that people like because they haven’t evolved in quarterback scouting. That is not the correct take. Herbert does have a big arm and he can push the ball down the field vertically. He’s also a good athlete who can make plays with his legs and make very good throws on the run. His accuracy is another strength to his game, and it’s a strength to every part of the field.

Round 1, No. 25 Overall: Tyler Biadasz, OL, Wisconsin

The final pick here in round one is to continue building the offensive line into a strength. If Herbert starts early in his career, he needs to have a strong offensive line to develop into a strong starter. Part of that can be addressed in free agency, but most of it needs to be through the draft.

Tyler Biadasz would be a great addition for Miami. Like Thomas, he’s got heavy hands and is very powerful right off the snap. He can get to the second level with ease as a run blocker and has the strength to anchor in pass protection. Once again, it’s a high floor player to surround a franchise quarterback.
