Round 2, No. 35 Overall: Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE, Penn State

The second round is an area where great teams hit on their selections. The Miami Dolphins need to do that with two selections in round two. With the first of their two picks, Miami goes to address the edge, where they have missed in previous years (see Charles Harris).

Since Flores is a disciple of Bill Belichick, and since he’s running a hybrid defensive scheme, finding someone who can transcend those schemes is important, as is finding a three-down defender. Yetur Gross-Matos is that three-down defender. He has great size and length for the position, can set the edge, and has upside as a pass rusher.

Round 2, No. 61 Overall: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

The wide receiver class is so deep that almost every player is going to be a value pick in the draft. Adding weapons for Herbert will be important, and there’s no proven wide receiver one on the roster.

DeVonta Smith can be the top option in an offense, and the Dolphins scoop him up at the end of the second round. Smith has a very good release and is an excellent route runner who creates separation. He also has the speed to be a vertical threat down the field and take advantage of Herbert’s arm strength. Smith and Herbert would be a great match in Miami.
