Round 1, No. 4 Overall: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

That sound you’re hearing here is the frustration of many Miami Dolphins fans after seeing their first selection isn’t a quarterback. However, the best player available approach might be the way to go if Joe Burrow is off the board.

If Chase Young is available, he makes perfect sense as the pick. But since Young wasn’t available in this spot, Andrew Thomas is the selection here for Miami.

I can still hear the frustration right now, mostly because people have been saying that this tackle class looks pretty good and pretty deep. However, if the Dolphins intend to draft a quarterback and start him early in his career, it’s best to have an offensive line in place that doesn’t need much development and can protect your signal-caller. Just look at the situation in Washington with Dwayne Haskins.

Thomas is a good selection for the Dolphins and makes sense. He’s a powerful player at the point of attack and is very solid in pass protection. His good footwork and powerful nature will keep edge rushers off balance. He might not be in that elite class of tackle prospects to come out of college, but he has a very high floor and is a starter from day one, which is something Miami desperately needs.
