Oklahoma. 2. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 815. QB. Jalen Hurts. player

It is going to be interesting to see what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do at the quarterback position after this season. They seem to have confidence in Jameis Winston as their starter, but I do not understand why. Winston continues to be far too unreliable and erratic as a passer and is limiting the upside of their offense. The Bucs have a lot of impact talent on the offensive side of the ball. While Winston can unlock their potential at times, for the most part, he holds them back.

I look at quarterback as a primary position of need for the Bucs this offseason. I considered giving them one in the first round of this mock draft, but that just does not seem like something they would do right now. However, if the right quarterback fell to them in the second round, I could see Tampa Bay making a play for a new signal-caller. Here, that guy is Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

When it is all said and done, I believe that I am going to be higher on Hurts than most. In my eyes, he is a clear first-round quarterback prospect who has a bright future at the next level. However, it seems that most consider him to be a Day 2 selection at best. Regardless, I see Hurts as a fantastic value pick in this range of the draft.

Hurts is an extremely tough competitor and a great leader who knows how to lead a team to victory. He is also a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to create yardage with both his arm and his legs.

Hurts has been an inconsistent passer throughout his college career, but his development in that area has been tremendous. He now shows the ability to read defenses and has legitimate accuracy to all fields. Hurts also shows enough natural arm talent to make any throw on the football field.

In today’s NFL, it is important to keep an open mind about the quarterback position. The days of traditional drop-back passers are gone. Quarterbacks now come in all different shapes, sizes and abilities. Hurts may not look or play like a traditional NFL quarterback, but that is fine. He is a fantastic competitor and tremendous playmaker who has the talent to be the answer to the Bucs’ quarterback concerns.
