2020 NFL Draft: Best NFL fits for top QB prospects
Justin’s top skills: Arm strength, size, athleticism, tight-window throws, ball placement
Justin’s top weaknesses: Injury history, decision-making (consistency)
Titans OC: Arthur Smith
It’s difficult to say if the circumstances will be the same next offseason for the Tennessee Titans in terms of their offensive outfit under head coach Mike Vrabel, but right now, this is a stellar defensive team without a direction at quarterback.
Marcus Mariota’s rapid decline since 2016 will have many Titans fans weary of another Oregon quarterback, but you can’t evaluate like that. Mariota is a completely different player who played on a completely different Oregon squad.
Justin Herbert could be a really nice fit for a team like the Titans, which obviously has the playmakers to establish the running game and playmakers at wide receiver to utilize Herbert’s skills deep downfield as one of the most accurate downfield throwers in college football.
I think there are a variety of NFL teams that will covet Herbert, whose play-style will remind some of Carson Wentz and others of Colin Kaepernick in some ways, but he’s shown more growth as a decision-maker in his senior season than just about any other QB prospect in the country.
The Titans are not Herbert’s only good fit in the NFL. I think he would fit in with a wide variety of teams and we’ll explore those as the offseason progresses.
