2020 NFL Draft: Best NFL fits for top QB prospects
Joe’s top skills: Playmaking ability, velocity variance, pocket presence, throwing under pressure
Joe’s top weaknesses: Arm strength, drifting unnecessarily, will flutter some passes
Bengals OC: Zac Taylor/Brian Callahan
While Joe Burrow is not exactly a clone of Jared Goff, I think he shares some of the same type of qualities Goff showed his final year at Cal and with that, I think Burrow could be a really nice fit for the Zac Taylor/Brian Callahan offense in Cincinnati.
Burrow, an Ohio native who transferred away from Ohio State to play (and now star) at LSU is having a sensational final collegiate season for the Tigers and absolutely shredding defenses.
I think Burrow has one of the most well-rounded games of any quarterback in this class, at least in this year’s sample, showing the ability to make throws under pressure, stay on task, keep the offense moving, make throws to all levels of the field, and show up in big spots.
There’s a reason he’s probably the front-runner for the Heisman trophy at this point, and while everyone thought he might cool off, he’s done anything but.
Burrow is a strong athlete with solid size, anticipation skills, and the ability to make every throw against man and zone coverage with a nice velocity variance. What I mean by that is, he knows when to put some stank on the ball and when to put air underneath it.
Burrow isn’t maybe the quintessential top QB prospect like an Andrew Luck coming out, but he does a lot of things well and looks like he can operate an NFL offense effectively.
