2020 NFL Draft: First round mock draft as the NFL season begins
2. Arizona Cardinals: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
With Kyler Murray at quarterback and Kliff Kingsbury running the show, the Arizona Cardinals are going to be one of the most interesting teams to watch in the NFL this season. The Cardinals did a great job of getting Murray more offensive weapons in the 2019 NFL Draft, but they have one of the worst offensive line situations in the NFL.
Murray’s playmaking ability and Kingsbury’s quick passing attack will help mitigate their issues up front, but this is still an obvious area of need for the team. Unless the Cardinals look to the defensive side of the ball, addressing the offensive line is the obvious choice here with the second overall pick.
A long, athletic and powerful offensive tackle with obvious upside, Andrew Thomas is considered by most to be the top offensive lineman in the 2020 NFL Draft class. He is an absolute mauler in the run game, using his quickness to consistently get to his spot and his power to dominate his opponent.
Most importantly for the Cardinals, Thomas is also a fantastic pass protector who uses his length well to keep defenders away from his body. He is patient in pass protection, allowing the defender to come to him and simply keeping him away from the quarterback. He has the athleticism to protect against speed rushers and has more than enough strength to handle power rushers.
This guys is an absolute stud of an offensive lineman and would be a fantastic addition to the Cardinals’ offensive line situation. Thomas could be a plug-and-play starter at left tackle.
