Dakota Allen, LB, Los Angeles Rams

Dakota Allen was the first Last Chance U player to get drafted in the NFL when he landed with the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Allen is the only player on this list who appeared on season two of Last Chance U, landing at EMCC after getting kicked out of Texas Tech.

Allen used his year at EMCC wisely, shining both on and off the field. He was an absolute star at linebacker for the EMCC defense and quickly found himself back on the NCAA Division I radar. After his one season in the JUCO ranks, Allen returned to Texas Tech where he became one of their best players on the defensive side of the ball.

In his final two seasons at Texas Tech, Allen piled up 162 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, six passes defended and two interceptions in 23 games. He was also named team captain in both 2017 and 2018.

Allen is an athletic linebacker prospect who defends in space well. He is also a reliable tackler and understands how to excel in both man and zone coverage. His roster status is not guaranteed as a seventh-round pick, but the Rams would not have taken him if he didn’t have a chance.

Simply put, Allen has a great chance of making the Rams’ roster out of camp, but at worst, he should be on the practice squad.
