Ranking the top 2019 NFL offensive rookie of the year candidates

5. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, WR, Baltimore Ravens

While wide receivers do not win offensive rookie of the year often, it does happen. There have been nine wide receivers who have taken home the award over the years, with most of them ending up having special careers. Simply put, if a special wide receiver comes along and makes an immediate impact, he can take home the hardware.

This year, Marquise Brown of the Baltimore Ravens has the best chance to be the top offensive rookie. “Hollywood” Brown was taken in the first round (25th overall) by the Ravens and was the first wide receiver off of the board in the 2019 NFL Draft, despite not participating in much of the draft process due to a foot injury.

Brown’s size stands out on the field, but not for the right reasons. At 5-foot-9, 166 pounds, it is easy to question Brown’s ability to make an impact at the next level. That being said, whatever he lacks in size, Hollywood undoubtedly makes up for it with his blazing speed and incredible natural athleticism.

The Ravens rookie receiver has easy deep speed that he can use to consistently take the top off of the defense. He also has tremendous quickness and can start and stop on a dime. His combination of raw speed and quickness makes him an obvious deep threat, but his ability to make defenders miss and create extra yardage after the catch is also incredibly impressive.

Brown fits the modern NFL extremely well and will likely come in and immediately be the number one receiver for Baltimore. The Ravens are a run-heavy team, but if Lamar Jackson can get the passing game going, Brown is going to make an immediate impact.

He obviously is not my favorite rookie of the year choice, but Hollywood Brown undoubtedly has a chance to make a run at the award.
