Who are the top candidates to take home the 2019 NFL offensive rookie of the year award?

The NFL offensive rookie of the year is one of the most interesting awards each season. This is a way for us to honor one of the best young players in the NFL and while it may not really mean much, the rookie of the year can claim to be the best player in his draft class early in their careers. If nothing else, it makes fans of the winning player’s team feel better about the direction of the franchise.

The NFL offensive rookie of the year award has historically been dominated by running backs, with players at the position taking home the prize 34 out of a possible 52 times since 1957. However, in the modern era, quarterbacks have also gotten into the mix.

Since 2010, a quarterback or running back has won the award eight out of a possible nine times, with the only exception being Odell Beckham in 2014. Basically, this is an award for quarterbacks and running backs, with a revolutionary wide receiver jumping up to snag a recognition every now and then. There has never been a player at another position to win the NFL offensive rookie of the year.

This year, we have an interesting group of players who will make the rookie of the year race extremely interesting. Who are the top candidates? Let’s take a look.
