Cardinals select Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State instead of KeeSean Johnson
I had a heck of a time finding a 2019 NFL Draft pick mulligan for the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona did a fantastic job of finding value throughout the draft and filling a majority of their team needs. They did a fantastic job of getting Kyler Murray some pass catchers and found some nice defensive talent as well.
If I have one issue with this NFL draft class for the Cardinals, it would be the lack of offensive linemen. Arizona struggled to protect their quarterbacks last season, and while that may not be as important in Kliff Kingsbury‘s offense, this offensive line still needs some work. I wanted to find a way to swap one of these earlier picks for an offensive lineman, but there simply did not seem to be a great fit.
Instead, we are going to make this easy and simply swap one sixth-round wide receiver for another. KeeSean Johnson is a talented pass catcher who could grow into a solid possession receiver at the next level. However, he is not as good as Kelvin Harmon.
Harmon was considered by most to be a probable Day 2 selection but ended up slipping all the way to the sixth round (206th overall). Harmon is not the quickest or fast wide receiver, but he is simply a playmaker on the field. He runs great routes, consistently finding space against zone coverage and creating separation against man. Harmon also fights hard for the ball in the air and uses his great size to win many 50/50 balls.
The Cardinals additions at wide receiver in the 2019 NFL Draft are impressive. Adding Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler and Johnson to the mix will undoubtedly help Kyler Murray immediately. That being said, adding Isabella, Butler and Harmon would have been better.
