New York Jets 2019 NFL Draft Picks:

Round 1 (3): Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Round 3 (68): Jachai Polite, EDGE, Florida
Round 3 (92): Chuma Edoga, OT, USC
Round 4 (121): Trevon Wesco, TE, West Virginia
Round 5 (157): Blake Cashman, LB, Minnesota
Round 6 (196): Blessuan Austin, CB, Rutgers

Draft Pick Redo: Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State instead of Trevon Wesco

Quinnen Williams is arguably the best player in the 2019 NFL Draft class and the New York Jets hit a home run when they scooped him up at number three overall. Defensive tackle was not a major need for this team, but Williams is simply too good of a player for the Jets to pass up.

New York swung for the fences with their next two picks, taking talented edge rusher Jachai Polite and offensive tackle Chuma Edoga in the third round. Both Polite and Edoga have flaws, but also show tremendous upside at extremely important positions. They were both untouchable in this exercise.

This brings us to the selection of tight end Trevon Wesco in the fourth round. Wesco is a good blocking tight end who will likely stick on the Jets roster, but he is a backup tight end at best. Instead of drafting Wesco, I would have liked to see the Jets address their need at cornerback. Amani Oruwariye stands out as a great fit.

Oruwariye is a big and physical corner who shows tremendous ability in press coverage. He also shows fantastic instincts in coverage and strong ball skills. Oruwariye is good in press and zone coverage, but his lack of overall foot speed can hold him back at times. Regardless, he has real starting cornerback upside at the next level and would have been a better fit for the Jets than Wesco.
